Shanon Bates

Business Owner & Keynote Speaker

In 2012, Shanon took up the sport of powerlifting in his final bid to represent Australia at the Rio Paralympics. However, he unfortunately missed the qualifying lift of 180kg in the 82kg class, missing the mark by 5kg.

Fast forward to July 2015, Shanon started his own business called Push The Limit.

Push The Limit aims to spread the message of inclusivity and social justice to as many children and educators as possible. The idea for this workshop was born out of personal experience and a desire to be an agent of change regarding attitudes towards people with disabilities within the community. It is Shanon’s hope that after meeting with your school community, you will see people with disabilities as capable and valuable members of our society.

Push The Limit holds presentations for students from daycare to primary and high school, as well as businesses on the topics of disability awareness, anti-bullying strategies, resilience, accountability, and mental wellbeing. Push The Limit also provides day-to-day support to those with a physical disability, intellectual disability, or psychosocial behavior who receive the NDIS.

On the 25th of January 2026, Shanon was awarded Sutherland Shire Citizen of the Year.
